So, about those races…

I thought it might be nice to share a quick update here. As I mentioned in an earlier post, both Sean and I have been training for upcoming races. Well, the good news is my races are done and done!

Kati, Dad, and me, showing off our Big Sur medals at the finish line

I completed the 21 mile Big Sur walk with my dad and younger sister back in April. This was a big accomplishment for my dad, who survived a heart attack several years ago and decided he was going to do this race, and he trained hard and completed it. I was very proud; it takes a lot of dedication to train day in and day out for something like this, and I was just happy to be a part of it. Of course Sean didn't want to miss the fun either, but 21 miles isn't enough for a crazy ultra-runner like him, so after dropping us off at the buses at 4am, he started running from the finish line until he met us on the course, then walked back with us. :)

The other race I trained for was the Ohlone Wilderness 50k, and my very first ultra. I finished that, too, thanks in no small part to all my canine running partners who really helped me train. Thanks, guys! High paws all around! It was extremely hot, hilly, and hot out there. Did I mention hot? But 9 hours later, and I hobbled my way 31 miles into the finish line, earning my new favorite tie-dye sweatshirt.

Sean, on the other hand, is far from done. He also ran Ohlone, only much faster than me. In addition, he completed the Way Too Cool 50k, the American River 50 mile, and the Quicksilver 50k (possibly more...pretty much assume if he's not running your dog, he's racing) and went on a weekend-long running training camp, but his big event is just around the corner: the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run. This is THE ultramarathon, and he has been super excited for it ever since he managed to earn a spot in the race.

So, we will be closed for dog walks and runs while we're out in Auburn for the race from Thursday, June 21st through Sunday, June 24th. Unfortunately, Western States has a strict no dog policy during the race as well, but luckily Christy, Gordy's favorite walking buddy, will be around to make sure he has a fun time while we're away. All of our other GoDogz will have to save their energy for our return. :)
